Tree and palm removal
The process for removal can be done in many ways. Generally, removal is done by hand using rigging systems, ropes, pulleys and a lowering device, called a friction drum. In using this technique, the tree is removed in a controlled manner. This should allow for minimal impact on the surrounding property, whilst providing a safe site for the crew to operate in.
Cranes
Cranes are generally used when dealing with large dangerous or awkward trees, or the situation does not allow removal by any other means. In using cranes and heavy machinery there is usually minimal impact on the surrounding property as the tree is lifted up and away, then lowered onto an area, often on the road close to the truck and chipper to be processed.
Elevated platform cherry picker
These are used generally in close conjunction to power lines where there is no margin for error, meaning branches have to be removed in small pieces, hand held by the chainsaw operator in the bucket. Other reasons for using this type of machine would be if the tree/palm maybe unstable and couldn’t be climbed safely without risk to the climber. A crane may well be used in conjunction with the elevated platform to remove the tree.
Palm trees and pruning
Palms especially Cocos and Date Palms tend to create an ongoing maintenance with removal of dead thorns, seeds and seedpods on an annual basis. This is a common task performed by our company.
Crown reducing and shaping
Crown reducing is generally done to reduce the overall size of the green area of the tree. This could be because the tree has outgrown its situation, to reduce the weight on overhang laterals or vertical branches showing various signs of stress. It could also be done to rejuvenate trees that are showing signs of dieback throughout the crown.
Crown thinning
This is a common practice used worldwide in urban areas. Generally it is done to increase light filtering through the tree to the garden or building below. It also can be used to encourage better form by removing re-growth and crossing branches, and most importantly reducing wind resistance. When thinning the crown of the tree, it does not mean reducing the height or side of the tree. It means selectively removing secondary branches through out the crown to obtain the objective.
Dead wooding
All trees are living and a part of the natural cycle is to release branches that are not required. They do this in the form of a die back that creates dead wood. This dead wood in an urban environment causes a liability problem for people and their man-made environments. Removal of this wood from the tree should be done when there is a definite risk to the surrounding environment and people.
Stump grinding/removal
There are several ways to remove stumps, but most commonly, machines are used nowadays as they make the job more efficient, quicker and easier for the operator. These machines are known as stump grinders. As the word grind insinuates, the machine gradually removes the solid stump into fine grindings mixed with the soil. These grindings then can be removed from site or spread around the garden beds as mulch. The other option would be to dig out the stump by hand or machine. This can be done but is usually labour intensive and costly experience, not often done anymore.
